Gathering Place joins national organization

The Gathering Place, North Bay’s soup kitchen has joined a national organization in an effort to offer more impactful community food programs.

It’s called Community Food Centres Canada.

Gathering Place Executive Director Jill Clark says food banks and soup kitchens are the last place people go for help and it shouldn’t be that way.  She says the whole emergency food system of soup kitchens and food banks is inefficient.

Clark says this national organization which includes 36 other good food organizations offers other ideas.

She says this organization can provide people with training, resources and opportunities like gorowing healthy food as the soup kitchen has done or having an improved diet.

Clark says the Gathering Place was already doing some of these things like the Gathering Place garden.

She says there will always be last resort places like soup kitchens and food banks.
