A local man is looking to let other men know it’s possible to achieve goals and live a good quality of life despite an advanced prostate cancer diagnosis.

After retiring as a steel worker in Hamilton, Sean Rogers moved to Lavigne.

Nine years ago he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, an incurable form of the disease.

He’s tried several treatments and has been able to get his cancer under control and can’t wait to get out snowmobiling this winter.

“I just do everything I used to, it’s just, I have cancer, that’s it.  It doesn’t control me,” he said.

Meantime, Rogers says the Movember movement, where men grow a moustache and raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, is a great initiative.

“You don’t think about it, most guys don’t think about it, I believe.  I never did before and I think we need to get out there and tell people these things,” he added.

Rogers says his advice to other men is “just get checked” and put your mind at ease.
