NU lakersMen’s and women’s volleyball and basket ball were in action last night.

Both teams played impressive games, but not all of them were victorious in the end.

Back to back wins for the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team last night after defeating the Guelph Gryphons in four sets.

The team came away with a 25-22 win in the first set, and again in the second with 25-16.

The Gryphons came back winning the third set 25-22, but the Lakers were able to close up the game with a 25-22 victory.

If the team keeps this momentum going, they could tie last year’s total.

Tracy Hammerton recorded 23 kills, Cassie Dobson added 10 kills, Erika Lapieere and Annabelle Harvey chipped in with seven each and Carley Uden was solid again, picking up 42 assists.

Christina Caruso was strong on the defensive end, grabbing 20 more digs.

Next up for the team is a home game against the McMaster Marauders tonight at 6 p.m.

 

The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team got themselves out of a slump last night after a victory against the Guelph Gryphons last night.

The Gryphons had a 1-0 and a 2-1 lead for most of the game, until the final part where Nipissing tied up and eventually won the match.

Guelph won the first match 25-19, which was also the score in the second for the Lakers. The third was where the Lakers could take the advantage, but the Gryphons earned a 25-23 victory. The Lakers forced a fifth set after a 25-23 win in the fourth. And then Nipissing walked away with the 15-6 win.

Cam Branch recorded 25 kills, Lyndon Sonego had nine kills and Steve Wood slammed home six.

Unfortunately, the Lakers did not qualify for playoffs as the York Lions needed to lose their games for Nipissing to qualify.

The Lakers will still continue to play, as they now face off against the McMaster Marauders tonight.

 

A loss in the books for the Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team last night after their game against McMaster.

The Lakers fell 85-26 against the Marauders even after Jamie Soffer had 12 points, leading the Lakers scoring.

Local heads were hanging low last night as the Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team suffered a loss at the hands of the Marauders.

McMaster University walked away with a 81-65 win after Kalil Langston scored 22 points for Nipissing.

Marvin Ngonadi added 10 while Wil Konybai chipped in with nine.
