North Bay Police out with a reminder for job seekers: watch out for job scams.

Police say a local resident posted her resume on an employment web site which matches job seekers with position advertisers.

It turns out one of the employers was a scammer and she was offered a job to clean a home.

She was asked to provide personal information including banking information.

The woman did.

The scammer sent her a $2,500 cheque and she was advised to put in into her bank account which she did.

The scammer then asked her to send a $900 security deposit.

The woman later discovered the deposit cheque was counterfeit and after her bank cancelled it city police were notified.

In the end, the woman lost $900 and extra bank fees.

Police say never send your bank account or credit card information to someone you don’t know, do your homework before making any decisions and beware of anyone who guarantees you money or a job when there is an upfront fee involved.
