Motorists take note, using an iPad while driving can result in a $490 ticket, if caught by police.

A male driver in North Bay learned that lesson after a police officer pulled the man over around 8:30 last night (Sunday) at Lakeshore Drive and MacDonald Avenue.

Police say it’s against the law to operate hand-held communication and electronic entertainment devices while driving and view display screens unrelated to driving.

Examples include iPods, MP3 players, DVD players, GPS, mobile and smart phones, laptops, iPads, and eReaders.

A 35 year old city man has been charged with assault with a weapon and domestic mischief after a 9-1-1 call to police on Saturday around 5 pm.

It’s alleged a woman was struck with a broom by a former male partner.

Some of her property was also allegedly damaged.

The man also faces a couple of breach charges.

North Bay Police say a motorist has been issued a ticket for committing a violation under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian on a roadway.

That follows a pedestrian being struck on Saturday night at Cassells and Algonquin.

Police say the driver was turning left onto Algonquin from Cassells when striking the pedestrian who had the right of way and was crossing Algonquin.
