The city lowered its flags Tuesday out of respect for those impacted by Sunday night’s attack at a mosque in Quebec City.

6 men were killed and 19 others were injured.

The City of North Bay also set up a book of condolence at City Hall for people to sign.

It’s being sent to the Mayor of Quebec City.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says he’s so saddened by the events at the Quebec mosque.

He says that’s not his Canada, and it’s not the Canada of 99 per cent of Canadians.

McDonald says Canada is an open society and people shouldn’t believe that events like this should change our view of welcoming and supporting diversity in our population.

He added that his thoughts go out to all those affected.

Deborah Robertson, Executive Director of the North Bay District Multi Cultural Centre says this was a horrific event.

She says Canada is a country built on its diversity and when something like this happens to a particular community it rocks the foundation of that notion.

She says as a multicultural centre they work to create an inclusive community and help the public understand there’s value in strength and diversity.
