The North Bay Battalion fought back from a couple of two goal deficits to beat the Sarnia Sting 7-4 on home ice last night (Thursday).

In fact, the Battalion scored five unanswered goals in the second half of the game to win.

Brett McKenzie’s 23rd goal of the season midway through the third proved to be the game winner.

Daniil Vertiy scored twice with Kyle Potts, Adam Thilander, Zach Poirier and Justin Brazeau adding singles.

Head coach Stan Butler says despite the fast paced game, he’s happy to get the win.

“We really appreciate our fans, we know this has been a tough year on them. We haven’t played as good as we’d like at home, I think there’s some pretty legitimate, mitigating circumstances for that, to say the least. But, it’s nice to win a hockey game,” said Butler, referring to the numerous injuries the team has suffered this season.

The Troops are in Mississauga tonight, catch the game on Country 600 CKAT starting at 6:55 pm.

In the Great North Midget League, the North Bay Midget AAA Trappers won 5-2 over New Liskeard last night in Temagami.

Joe Whittet had 2 goals with Dylan Bond, Nick Davis and Bailey Chenier scoring singles.

The Trappers wrap up their regular season schedule tomorrow in Sudbury against the Minor-Midget Wolves.
