Still no decision from city council on the future of the Dionne Quints Museum.

The proposal to send some of the artifacts and the home to Strong Township, other artifacts to the Callander Bay Museum and important paper documents to the Harris Learning Library has yet to be voted on.

After an amendment to give the Friends of the Dionne Quintuplets Home Museum more time to come up with a proposal was defeated for the second time, another motion calling for the home to remain here as a static display was put forward.

The motion called for that idea to be studied and be put back to committee, but was defeated and will be reconsidered in two weeks.

Councillor George Maroosis sees this proposal as a compromise.

He says some members of council and the Friends both agree on a first step to keep the museum here.

Jeff Fournier speaks for the Friends group.

He says he believes the museum, in it’s entirety, should remain here and they need city funding to make it happen.

Fournier says this is an important heritage artifact and the city has to step up.

There were also 3 public presentations on keeping the home here.

One included a letter being read by a local citizen from the two surviving Dionne Quints Annette and Cecile.

They said if the museum can’t be kept here then it should be kept in whole and transferred to the Canadian Museum of History.

Still at City Hall, a Moment of Silence was held before last night’s meeting to remember the victims of the Quebec City Mosque Shooting.

The mayor pointed out the importance of being inclusive.

Last week, the city lowered its flags at City Hall and also set up a book of condolence for people to sign, which will be sent to the Mayor of Quebec City.

City Council has also approved a couple of rezoning items.

One is for the Nipissing Serenity hospice on John Street that will allow up to 10 beds.

That’s an increase from the 8 beds designated in the previous rezoning.

The other proposal increases the number of legal units at a residence on Dudley Avenue from two to four.
