University students from across the province including at Nipissing were campaigning for a $15 an hour minimum wage on Tuesday.

Sam DeFranco is the events coordinator at the Equity Centre at the university.

She says they had 114 people sign a petition and they also encouraged people to sign cards which will be sent to provincial representatives.

She says the current minimum wage is $11.40 an hour and the students need financial help to make ends meet while going to class.

She says students are working, going to school full time and paying for their education.

She describes that as an impossible situation without a higher minimum wage.

Defranco says all the information from the universities province wide will be sent to the 15 Dollars for Fairness campaign and that will be sent on to the provincial government.
