The local One Pledge effort to end domestic violence has formed a partnership with The Nipissing University Student Union.

NUSU president Jordan Andrews says violence against anybody is more personal in our community because we’re a close knit community.

He says it’s like violence against a friend or family member.

He says they want to take a stand because they love their community and want to make sure it’s a safe place.

Andrews says the campaign focuses on social media in addition to the traditional forms of media to get the message out that we must pledge to say no to domestic violence.

Janine Lafreniere the executive director of the Nipissing Transition House says she’s seen the impact of domestic violence on woman and children and time for the violence to stop.

She says this is great to have student involvement.

Lafreniere says there are vulnerable people at the university who need to know where to go for help if they need it and who to talk to.
