North Bay Transit is receiving a $1.2-million investment from the federal Government.

Nipissing MP Anthony Rota made the announcement along with Mayor Al McDonald this week.

Rota says the funds will help take the city’s transit system into the future.

“This funding will support installing electronic fare box systems, provide riders with more payment options and upgrades to the transit storage facility,” he says.

Rota adds 10 new bus shelters will also be built.

McDonald says it’s also helping city council receive better data to help make better informed decisions around the council table.

The bulk of the work has started or will be beginning by the end of March.
