Team 1305 is gearing up for the FIRST Robotics World Championship in St Louis.

The Near North Student Robotics team qualified for the upcoming event last weekend at a regional competition in Mississauga.

Team Captain Jessica Kelso says they’re excited to be going to the Missouri event.

“This is our 14th year qualifying for Worlds, we’re actually one of the only teams who have consecutively qualified, we were one of the top 30 teams in Ontario moving on,” she said.

Kelso says there’s plenty of packing to do before the Worlds, pointing out they leave on Monday.

“Our pit is our area that we get to fix our robot in, we have to get all of our tools and all of our documentation ready, along with having Clark, our 2017 robot, shipped over to St. Louis,” she said.

Kelso was also recognized as a Dean’s List finalist and will compete against about 150 others for one of ten Dean’s List awards.

She says for anyone interested in getting involved in the robotics program, or Lego robotics for younger students, they can check out their Facebook page.

“It’s such a unique program and unique way to get involved. Even if you’re not interested in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, you can either find your passion for it or you can find your passion for something else, because the robotics team isn’t just about the robot,” she added.

The FIRST Robotics World Championship goes April 26th to 29th in St. Louis, Missouri.
