Council approves geotech assessment of King's Landing

City Council has given the green light to a report from the Downtown Waterfront Advisory Committee.

It has 3 major recommendations, including a geotechnical assessment of the King’s Landing Marina area.

Mayor Al McDonald says the assessment will look at cost estimates for the various options which include rehabilitation alone or a multi use Pier and Wave Break development.

He says time is of the essence because of the current condition

Before anything is done, McDonald says they need the results of the study which should take about 4 months.

He points out these recommendations look at four major areas: immediate, short term, medium and long term and says if they don’t conduct the study the city could lose the government dock and the Chief Commanda II.

The recommendations also call on staff to meet with stakeholders and prepare a report identifying cost estimates and location options for the proposed splash pad.

As well, staff will be meeting with railway representatives to determine potential uses and plans for the waterfront.
