Overpass
Work on the Lakeshore Drive overpass is expected to start up next month, but there’s a change to the project timelines.

Chair of Engineering and Works Tanya Vrebosch says the work was to big to be completed in one summer.

She says there was a bonus incentive if the contractor finished early, but a penalty if they finished late, and Vrebosch says that penalty is now built into the contract because it would be impossible to finish on time.

Vrebosch says only the underside of the project will be done this year, meaning the contractor will be required to generally maintain four lanes of traffic.

2017 will now see the surface work, including the deck replacement. That means half the bridge will be closed off during that phase of the project — with two lanes of traffic, including one in each direction, remaining opening.
