Nipissing First Nation residents in Jocko Point and Beaucage are about to have access to natural gas.

Officials were on hand Tuesday morning on Jocko Point Road for phase 2 of a natural gas construction project.

Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod says residents will be able to convert their homes to natural gas.

He says atleast 400 households are benefiting from this announcement and they also have plans to provide natural gas to residents in Garden Village.

McLeod says other communities that will be served with this announcement include Nova Beaucage/Yellek, Art’s Lane and Meadowside with the construction to be complete by this August.

He says phase 1 started a couple of years ago with about 200 customers benefiting.

McLeod says residents and businesses aren’t confined to choosing just hydro electricity any more and they’ll now have the option of choosing natural gas and that will help the bottom line.
