Quite the recognition for North Bay’s Andy Hazelwood.

The staff member at St Joseph-Scollard Hall received an international award from the Duke of Edinburgh charitable organization.

He’s been taking students to Costa Rica for the last 15 years and improving the lives of people there.

He didn’t know he was getting the award before he received it.

Hazelwood says he just thought the charitable organization staff was just there to talk to the students about this years trip not to recognize him.

Ironically, there were no plans to do it again after the first year but Hazelwood says when the students returned after 1summer they wanted to go back because they were seeing the difference they were making in peoples lives.

Hazelwood says it was the students who got it rolling. and they deserve the credit.
