A last minute motion by Councillor George Maroosis ruffled a few feathers around the council chambers Tuesday night.

Maroosis wanted to know if council supported the hot topic idea of building a super school, or not.

He says the community has really gotten involved and the City of North Bay should have an opinion as well.

“A majority of our citizens live in the North and South ends and are serviced by a high school in each end and those high schools need to maintain a two-school situation,” he says.

Mayor Al McDonald and Chamber of Commerce president Peter Chirico voiced their concerns during Monday nights meeting and Maroosis just felt residents should know their elected officials agreed with them.

Councillor Mac Bain was one of three councilors to disagree with Maroosis, saying this subject should’ve been brought forward before the meeting began.

He says it would’ve given council time to educate themselves on all matters on the Accommodation Review and form a proper opinion.

The motion eventually passed 7-3.
