Trustees with the Near North District School Board will be voting tonight (Tuesday) on the future of three North Bay elementary schools.

The recommendation is to consolidate E.W. Norman, E.T. Carmichael and W.J. Fricker schools into one new JK to Grade 6 build on the Fricker site.

The board will not be voting on what to do about the city’s three public high schools.

Originally that vote was going to happen at tonight’s meeting, but officials announced the decision will be delayed to allow for more time for discussion.

Board chair David Thompson says nothing will happen until September and hopefully there will be answers then from what’s been heard from so far from the ARC committee and the community consultation.

He also says there is a provincial election coming and that could impact the timing of a decision.

In fact, Thompson says the government has already changed the timeline of capital plan submissions and that’s very frustrating from a planning perspective.
