The city has announced North Bay will be the host site for several provincial high school competitions over the next three years.

The list includes OFSAA girls golf this year, OFSAA Girls A Basketball next year, OFSAA boys and girls curling, Badminton and AA Boys soccer in 2019 and a boys basketball in 2020.

The list also includes the provincial midget cross country skiing championships the next 2 years.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says holding events like this has an economic impact to the city and its businesses if the past is any indication.

He says in recent years $6 million have been spent locally in the community by visitors who are here for sporting competitions.

McDonald says the largest increase in tourism right now are sporting events.
The city’s sports tourism coordinator is Larry Tougas.

He says North Bay has great facilities, an affordable banquet room cost and a central location in the province.
