Saying they have a mission to help meet a need in the community the sisters of St Joseph of Sault Ste Marie at St Joseph’s Motherhouse in North Bay are earmarking space for seniors housing.

General Superior Sister Bonnie MacLellan says if they get the building permits from the city they will be building 10 units in the north wing.

She points out they’ll be geared to rent to income and market prices too and there will be 6 two bedroom apartments and 4 one bedroom units.

She says preliminary work and drawings have already been done.

As for a timeline on completion she estimates it’ll be late 2018 or early 2019 at a price tag of $3.6 million.

Sister Bonnie says they will be building an external entrance with an external elevator and that work must be done in the summer when its warmer.
