Housing starts in the North Bay area are up 11 percent over last year.

Data from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, through the first six months, shows 30 starts locally.

That’s up three from a year ago.

Second quarter growth was nearly 23 percent better than the same three months in 2016.

Of note, after one single detached start in the first quarter of 2017, there were 19 from April through June.

Meantime, the CMHC dats shows North Bay and Greater Sudbury are the only major northeastern centres to see increases in housing construction, year over year.

Sault Ste Marie, Timmins, West Nipissing, Elliot Lake and Temiskaming Shores are all down.
