Regional group looking to see train service revitalized

The Northern and Eastern Ontario Rail Network is hoping to revitalize existing railways in our area.

Linda Savory-Gordon sits on the NEORN board, and she says there’s many reasons why the government should reinstate passenger train service throughout the Northeast Region.

She says “people are realizing we have to do something to combat climate change and carbon emissions, but also we are really isolated in northern Ontario.”

Savory-Gordon says it’s hard to travel when highways are shut down in the winter, and money needs to be spent every year on repaving and fixing roads.

She says they are hoping to get support from all municipalities throughout the region so they can take this issue to both the provincial and federal government.
