The last long weekend of the summer is here and OPP will be out on area highways targeting distracted driving.

Northeast Region OPP Traffic Inspector Scott Hlady took to social media, posting a video safety message as he tossed his phone into the back seat of a cruiser.

“Put the phone away, enjoy your trip, give yourself a little extra time to get where you need to go, and have some patience. Drive safely, have a great long weekend,” he says.

Police point out inattentive driving is linked to more collisions on Ontario OPP-patrolled roads so far this year than speeding and alcohol/drug-related collisions combined.
