Some local residents are helping Fort McMurray evacuees through the Angels Network.

Karen Restoule says upwards of 100 families have traveled through North Bay so far.

She says the group is helping out those evacuees who are originally from Atlantic Canada and are venturing back home.

She says they track them across Canada and meet up with them to offer shelter, food, gas cards and other donated items.

Restoule says the first group she helped included three adults, a 14 year old, a baby boy and a couple pets.

She says, “They had no idea if their house was gone or not, but didn’t want to stay because they didn’t know how long it would take to get things back up and running.”

Meantime, Restoule says just yesterday (Wednesday) they helped a young mother of an eight year old child with a dog.

She lost virtually everything and was traveling with just the clothes on her back.

Restoule says they’re associated with the Sudbury chapter of the Angels Network and if residents or businesses are looking to donate items to the evacuees they can contact her or Karrie Emms through Facebook.
