Canadian Cancer Society

A successful Daffodil Month Campaign for the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society.

173 people volunteered to sell daffodil pins and canvass their neighbourhoods, helping to raise over $44,000 in April.

Money raised through Daffodil Month helps local patients and their families living with cancer, through life-saving research, support services and funds other important work so that fewer Canadians are touched by the disease.
Community Fundraising Specialist Debbie Marson says today over 60% of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least five years after their diagnosis. And the survival rates for some cancers are much higher – with childhood cancer at 83%, breast at 88% and prostate at 96%. In the 1940s, survival was about 25%.

“However, work remains to be done as almost half of Canadians are expected to develop cancer in their lifetimes and it is the leading cause of death in this country. It’s for this reason that as the Daffodil Month campaign ends, we gear up for Relay For Life events. I encourage people to register for a relay near them at relayforlife.ca
