The charge follows an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit.

In a release, the SIU says there was an altercation between several patrons at a North Bay establishment.

The report says the officer intervened and a 40 year old man was allegedly assaulted.

Constable Christian Elia has a July 5th court date.

Meantime, North Bay Police will not be commenting on the fact that one of their officers is facing a criminal charge.

In a release, police point out that under the Police Services Act they can not comment on SIU investigations.

Citing a regulation, which says the police force and its members shall not during the course of an investigation by the SIU into an incident disclose to any person any information with respect to the incident or the investigation.
