A poll released by CUPE Ontario says people in North Bay and East Nipissing are strongly opposed to public divestment of Cassellholme.

The Cassellholme board is looking at the home becoming a non profit something the union believes would turn it into a privately run nursing home.

CUPE Ontario president Fred Hahn says just over 800 people responded in the poll.

Hahn says the poll proves that people are proud that their tax dollars are supporting seniors at Cassellholme and they want their politicians to keep the home public.

87 per cent of the poll respondents want council members to vote to make a statement on Cassellhome whether private or public and 59 per cent would be less likely to vote for said councillor or mayor if they voted to make Cassellholme private.

The poll was conducted by telephone and the margin of error is considered accurate within 3.4 percentage points 19 times out of 20.

Meantime, the union has organized a community forum on Cassellholme for next Tuesday at 7 pm at the Discovery North Bay Museum.
