The changing world of health care in Northern Ontario is focusing on telemedicine.

That’s what many health professionals were saying Thursday at a forum at the Best Western.

100 Nurses, administrators and managers came together to share best practices.

The Northeast LHIN has 280 telemedicine sites and Jennifer Michaud the Senior Project Manager of Enabling Technologies says they are the worldwide leaders in telemedicine technology.

She says that’s especially important for patients.

Michaud says one of the advantages of telemedicine is you’re not alone and you can have your family and friends right with you .

If you have to travel to Toronto for example that may not be the case.

She says telemedicine continues to expand.

Michaud says patients receiving telemedicine technology aren’t in contact with Toronto doctors all the time.

Infact she says many northern doctors are in contact through telemedicine with patients in the north.

The North Bay session was also broadcast to a remote location in Thunder Bay.
