City Hall generic

A council committee is looking at putting limits on how long election signs can be up during elections.

Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette says the max for most council appears to be six weeks and those candidates could be fined if you don’t pick them up within a specific time frame.

He says the fine could be 50 dollars.

Forgette says most of council want to see the changes in place in time for the next municipal election in 2018.

He says most council members want to see the city clean and tidy during the campaign.

Forgette says the proposal which was initially started in 2011 remains on the committee file and would have to pass committee before coming up for a vote at a council meeting in the future.

Forgette says they are also checking to see if the bylaw could apply to provincial and federal elections too.
