North Bay Police say they’ve received reports from residents about someone calling them saying they are a police officer and they will be arrested if they or their lawyers don’t call them back.

The police officer impersonator does not leave a name on the message but does reveal a badge number.

The fraudster also wants personal information like social insurance numbers.

Police say their best advice is if you get a call like this hang up and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and if you’re not sure if the call is legit from city police contact them by phone or drop by to their  headquarters on Princess Street West.

Meantime, police say they’ve received 4 more complaints from residents about an inheritance letter scam.

Police say there have been no victims.

Again, if you get a call contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre and if you’re tricked contact your bank and city police.
