The North Bay Battalion have made their third trade with the Owen Sound Attack this season, sending overage forward, Brett McKenzie to the Western Conference team.

McKenzie was traded for 1999 birth year forward Matthew Struthers, a 2nd round pick in 2020 and a condition 14th round pick in 2018.  Struthers, six-foot-two and 194 pounds, is a left shot who has scored nine goals and earned nine assists for 18 points in 32 games this season.  The 18 year-old has accumulated 50 points in 145 career OHL games.

Head Coach Stan Butler says McKenzie’s time in North Bay was productive and special.

“He was our first, first round draft pick that came to North Bay. He was part of a team that went to the OHL final and conference final. He was a special player for us.”

McKenzie has nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 31 games this season after leading the Troops in scoring in 2016-17 with 29 goals and 38 assists for 67 points in as many games.

Butler says the picks may seem pick late but sometimes they pan out into Justin Brazeau type players that can help your team down the road.

Meantime, Struthers is expected to be in the lineup for tomorrow’s contest vs the Oshawa Generals and take McKenzie’s spot in the lineup.
