Ontario jr 2015 gold medalistsA couple local athletes, including North Bay Valkyries weightlifter Vanessa Gagnon are heading to national events.

Gagnon and Emma Mondor (pictured with coach Larry Sheppard) won gold in their weight classes at  the provincial junior finals in Oakville recently, while North Bay Norseman Matt Jemmet won silver in his.

Gagnon secured a spot on the Ontario junior team and will take part in the junior Nationals next month in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Nipissing’s Caleb Mady also won a bronze medal.

 

Local youth bowler off to Nationals after winning gold

 
Cody Edmunds(Submitted) Fifteen local youth bowlers took part in the Youth Challenge Provincial 5 Pin Bowling Championships which were held at Whitewater Lanes in Azilda, Ontario.

This tournament consisted of youth ages 13 to 18 who came from as far away as Kenora for an opportunity to advance to the National Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2016.

Cody Edmunds from North Bay (pictured), in his final year of eligibility, took the Men’s Singles Gold medal with a 255.6 average over 5 games.

As a result, Cody will be participating in the National Championships being held on March 17-19, 2016 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Bowlers consisting of Cody Edmunds, Jordan Boehk, Dylan Grant, Liam Smith, Coach Flipper Smith from North Bay and Nicholas Adam from St Charles took the silver medal in the Men’s division.

Meantime, bowlers consisting of Kyrsten Tremblay, Thomas Williams, Coach Michael MacLean from North Bay and Alexis Antler, Keenan Mayo from Haileybury and Kaylan Williams from St Charles took the bronze medal in the Mixed division.

And bowlers consisting of Tessa Grant, Laura-Anne Seaton, Lauryn Luquer, Willow Arbour, Coach Natasha Tremblay from North Bay and Kayla Plante from Haileybury captured a 5th place finish in the Ladies division.
