Jeff SerranNext Monday Council will hold a vote to determine if the current members will be given a raise.

Remuneration was the major topic on Council Capsule this morning as Councillor Jeff Serran joined Matthew Sookram, and Serran says he is not supportive of a council raise.

He says the timing and climate isn’t right, and Serran was asked where the rest of council stands.

Serran says for Councillors, it shouldn’t be about the paycheck

Meantime, the budget is currently sitting at under two percent and Serran expects that number to come forward for the final vote.

He was asked if there will be many changes in services to the everyday resident, with a low tax increase.

Council is expected to pass the budget early in the New Year.

As well, Summer in the Park was discussed as Council has committed $80,000 to the festival for the next two years, and Council agreed to give the committee an extra $40,000 for this year’s festival.

Serran was asked if council should spread the funding out to get more concerts to North Bay throughout the year.

Serran says overall there is a need to have tourism dollars coming in year round and that would mean bringing in concerts to Memorial Gardens.
