The three day Rural Ontario Municipal Association annual conference gets underway in Toronto today (Sunday) and three members of city council will be in attendance.

North Bay Councillor Chris Mayne says the premier and several cabinet ministers will be meeting with municipal leaders to get a sense of their big concerns entering election years for municipal and provincial politicians.

“I think in North Bay and Northern Ontario it’s continued support for infrastructure. We need money to keep maintaining our roads. Cassellholme is another genuine concern,” he says.

Mayne says there are meetings set up tomorrow with Minister of Energy Glenn Thibeault and Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle.

They will also be meeting the Finance Ministry and possibly the Minister.

Mayne says it’s an important conference for cabinet ministers too.

“They want to get a sense of the important issues for communities in Northeastern Ontario and the entire province. You want to know what everyone is looking for support for,” he says.
